Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie
I hesitate to say this and potentially lose book nerd cred, but until last month I had never read a Hercule Poirot mystery. My mother had raised me to be a Miss Marple fan and in our household one could not be both a Marple-ite and a Poirot-ian. You had to pick a side and Miss Marple’s laid back charm appealed to me more.
This was another book that I took on my recent vacation. I actually started it while riding the train from Venice to Florence. I had seen the new movie that came out last year with my dad, but I couldn’t remember the big reveal at the end. So, I still got to experience the mystery of it.
I really enjoyed this book and can see why it is a classic. And while Hercule Poirot has not replaced Miss Marple in my affections, I can absolutely see why he is such a popular character. I will definitely be reading another mystery featuring him soon.
I’d give this 4/5 stars. It’s a classic for a reason. Perfect for a vacation or a rainy weekend.
